Ashadhi Ekadashi

We at Maa Jagdammba English Medium School, Dehu take care of the 3-S to the utmost and in all stages of schooling, whether scholastic or co scholastic.

The 3-S Mantra of our school is:

SHIKSHAN

SANSKAAR

SURAKSHA

And pursuing on these lines we undertake many activities to nourish our goals.

The Ashadhi Ekadashi is one such celebration. We being stated on the holy land of Dehu which is the Janma and Karma Bhumi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj, this celebration is very close to our hearts.

Students right from Nursery to Primary classes take part in various competitions like Shlok, Abhang, Kirtan, Elocution and much more.

On the 'D' Day students dress up traditionally as 'warkaris' - Girls acorn themselves in the Nav vari sarees and boys in dhoti - kurta.

The Palki is beautifully decorated and older boys and girls carry the Palki in a procession, rejoicing and chanting 'Vitthal Vitthal Jai Hari Vitthal'

The Palki Poojan is done by Directors and Principals and then it is placed on a stage suitably decorated for the function.

Kids recite Shloks, Abhangs perform kirtans and give speeches. And all these carry traditional values - social, national or even personal.

The last part of the programme is the 'Ringan' where traditional games like 'Zimma', 'Phugdi' and many such games are enjoyed by the young and old. This not only is the initiative to maintain the local culture, but a way to update the students on how these festivals took care of the physical well being as well.

'Jatya varchya ovya' - traditional folk lore are sung by teachers and are thus passed on to the future generation a perfect example of Oral Sourses of history.

We end the programme by the Tukaram Maharaj Vaikunth Gaman on a sad note of Aamhi jato aamchya gava Aamcha Ram Ram ghyava'

Thus this function encourages students to improve their memory skill. It gives them an opportunity to relive the age old culture and traditions. The kirtans and speeches give them a sense of responsibility of carrying forth the moral values to the future generation.

The physical fitness test cannot be better given other than a 'Warkari who walks down miles and miles to reach Pandharpur, walking, singing, dancing and praying to the diety Vitthal.

The social and community awareness is seen during this wari, when people serve meals to the warkaris, provide shelter, render medical help and give any and every help to them during the Pandharpur Wari.

The Wari and the Warkartis are the best examples of loving, sharing. caring, mutual understanding, trust, sensitivity and much more. Do we then need a special Moral Science book to teach the values to the students?

The experience that we give to the students itself speaks volumes on personal, social and national values and also teach them to defend themselves and be prepared strongly to face any adverse situation.
MAULI MAULI!

KANYA POOJAN

Kanya Poojan is a very unique and novel celebration at Maa Jagdammba English Medium School.

On the Ashtami Poojan Day, Kanya Poojan and Kanya Bhojan are celebrated with great pomp and vigour.

The objective behind this celebration again is to spread a social message among the parents and students on:

GENDER EQUALITY

EQUAL RIGHTS TO WOMEN

RESPECT FOR WOMEN

AND ABOVE ALL SAVE GIRL CHILD

The Play Group and Nursery Class Girls are involved in this Poojan.

We install the Murti of Maa Jagdammbe and decorate it just like the Ganpati Celebration decorations are done. We offer many types of sweets to Devi Maa.

Slogans and Charts reflecting our objectives of celebration are displayed.

The Play Group and Nursery girls are asked to come dressed up beautifully in red colour dresses.

The teachers then dress them up with 'Mukuts' and 'Chunri. They really look so beautiful, like real Devis. Their feet and palms are adorned with Mahur or Alta.

The small chairs on which these 'Devis' of the Day take the asans too are decorated with colourful rangoli. The girls are made to sit in a row.

Aartis are sung and thus begin our 'Kanya Poojan' ceremony. The first one to get the honour of Kanya Poojan is our Chairman Mrs Sandhya Kumavat. Their feet are washed, haldi kumkum is offered to them, their Aarti is done and blessings are taken by touching their feet. Sweet is given to them. After that Kanya Poojan is also done by Principals and teachers.

After the Poojan the 'Devis 'are then taken for 'Kanya Bhojan'. They have their bhojan and a fruit is given to them and thus the 'Kanya Poojan' ceremony comes to an end.

The celebration really means a lot in this age, where even during modern times a woman is humiliated and harassed for giving birth to a female child. Women are not given equal status and rights in many families even today. A woman is considered lowly and there is a big question mark on their very existence.

On this background, Maa Jagdammba English Medium School makes a small attempt to give a social message to all villagers at Dehu on BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO, GENDER EQUALITY and RESPECT FOR WOMEN.

The President of Scouts and Guides -Pune Shri Vijay ZOri and his team were invited for this purpose.

Towards the end of the programme Shri Vijay Zori also gave a lively demo on how to wash hands using Dettol Hand Wash or soap and gave information on paper soaps or sanitizers that can be used to clean hands in trains or offices where hand wash is not available.

Using the glow torch he also showed to the parents the disease spreading germs on the palms. On seeing those germs the students and parents were shocked and they promised to take care of their personal health and wash their hands before every meal, breakfast lunch or dinner.
